To familiarize students with various languages listed in Schedule VIII of the Constitution of India and to enhance linguistic tolerance and respect, and promote national integration, ‘Bhasha Sangam’ initiative was promoted from 20th November to 21st December, 2018 in the school. The initiative was a part of the Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat programme. The suggested activities were undertaken in a joyful and interesting manner. Students were encouraged to speak and learn at least 5 sentences in the language assigned for a particular day.
Beti bachao Beti Padhao (22nd January, 2019)
In an attempt to encourage birth and education of girls,Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi launched "Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao" (BBBP) Yojana in January 2015. Coming out in full support of this initiative, our 85 cadets of NCC took out a rally to sensitize public on the need to protect girl child and promote girl education. The girls walked through the surrounding area raising slogans to save and nurture the girl child. They urged people of the locality to stand against the social evil.
The 70th Republic Day was celebrated with great patriotic fervor on 25th January, 2019. The programme began with guard of honor followed by the hoisting of the tri-color. The occasion was presided over by the chief guest; Dr.(Mrs) Shashi Guglani, our alumna and a professor (Retd.) from Lady Irwin College.
The school choir presented a song to welcome the chief guest, other dignitaries and invited grandparents. Various activities were prepared under the able stewardship of the teachers and the cultural show commenced with the speech given by Rhuma of VIII B. A patriotic dance followed by a mesmeric Qawwali reverberated the air with patriotic zeal. The annual report presented by Principal Madam threw light on various achievements, glories and accolades of the school and its students. The prize distribution ceremony aimed at acknowledging the commendable performances and efforts of students in different academics and extra-curricular pursuits and events. Dr.(Mrs) Shashi Guglani in her address congratulated the winners and appreciated the participants for their dedication.
INTERNATIONAL YOGA DAY
The International Yoga Day was celebrated in the premises of Salwan Girls Senior Secondary School on 21st June,2018. The programme started with lamp lighting and chanting of mantras followed by prayer and oath taking by all the NCC cadets. All the participants took a pledge to maintain good physical, mental and moral health. Members of Bhartiya Yoga Sansthan taught the cadets some important asanas and pranayamas. The NCC cadets of Hansraj Model school, S.D public School and RPVV Kishanganj also participated in the event.
Mrs. Alka Sibbal, Principal concluded the event with a vote of thanks and also motivated students to make yoga an important part of their daily routine.
WORLD POPULATION WEEK
With an aim to raise awareness of Global Population issues the Social Science Department celebrated World Population Week from 12 July 2018 to 19 July2018.The event included various activities such as poster making and slogan writing. Students of classes VIII and IX actively participated in these activities .They expressed their deep concern and showcased the dire consequences of population explosion through posters and slogans. The Principal, Mrs Alka Sibbal was contended to see students' active participation in the event and applauded their efforts.
To promote the ancient Sanskrit language, an artistry competition was organised on 24 July 2018. The competition was categorized into two groups. The first group was of VI class and the second group was of VII and VIII classes. Students participated with great zeal and showcased their talent. Winners of the competition were appreciated for their artistic skills.
The Eco Club initiated a Tree Plantation Drive on 7th August 2018. With an aim of “think globally, act locally” the green ambassadors pledged to work in an environment friendly manner which included usage of paper bags, management of waste, conservation of water, saving electricity etc. Myriad of activities like on the spot painting, poster making, poem recitation were carried out to spread awareness among the students about various environmental issues. All the participants realised that it is the duty of everyone to protect plants and trees so that we can develop a pollution free world.The Principal and the Vice-Principal of the school along with the eco-club saviours planted saplings in the school premises. Other students were also urged to do their best to save the globe from green house effect for environment sustainability.
MOVIE SHOW (30th July,2018)
Around 300 students along with their class teachers had a chance to watch the movie 'Mission Impossible - the fall out' at Delite Cinema. The event was arranged by NIE - The Times of India'. Students as well as teachers enjoyed their time to the fullest.
VISIT TO RASHTRAPATI BHAWAN AND NATIONAL MUSEUM (9TH AUGUST' 2018)
50 students of class XII (Humanities stream) along with two teachers visited Rashtrapati Bhawan on 9th August' 2018 as a part of the educational field trip organised by the school. It was a rare opportunity for the students to take a tour of the building and know about the infrastructure. They were elated to see Ashoka Hall, Darbar Hall, library and Marble House.
On the same day, the students were taken to National Museum too.The visit provided a chance to the students to learn about the museum and its masterpieces. It was an informative experience for the students.
INDEPENDENCE DAY CELEBRATION (14 AUGUST,2018)
Independence day was celebrated in the school with great enthusiasm. The programme started with a patriotic song followed by a speech of class VI student. Two dance performances entertained the audience. A drama on 'Health, Hygiene and Cleanliness' was presented by the students of classes VI to VIII. The event concluded with an emotional note when the girls portrayed various freedom fighters and spoke out their slogans. Mrs. Abha Joshi, Director of the school addressed the gathering and emphasised the need for gaining true independence for the country i.e freedom from illiteracy, corruption, hunger and poverty.
SANSKRIT WEEK (23TH AUGUST, 2018 - 29TH AUGUST, 2018)
Sanskrit Week was celebrated from 23th August,2018 to 29th August,2018.Various activities like poster making, shloka recitation,poem recitation were carried out throughout the week.On 25August 2018 a special programme was organised .The programme began with the Mangalacharan recited by the students of class VI. This was followed by a speech presented by Lakshita of class VIII on the relevance of Sanskrit diwas. Some students of class IX spoke about ancient Indian scientists.Last but not the least, a skit was presented by class VIII students in which they stressed on the dire consequences of using plastic and urged everyone to stop using things made of plastic. The programme ended with a vote of thanks.
INTERNATIONAL OZONE DAY
25 August 2018 was observed as 'International Ozone Day' with an active participation of the students .With an aim to spread awareness among students to protect the Ozone Layer, different competitions like painting, slogan writing, poster making were organised for the students of classes VIII,IX and X. The theme was "Environmental protection and importance of ozone layer". Members of Eco Club sensitized everyone about their contribution in saving their planet
LETTER WRITING COMPETITION
With an aim to connect young generation to their motherland and also to encourage them to write letters, a Letter Writing competition was organised on 12 September 2018. The theme was "Letter to my motherland" inspired by Rabindra Nath Tagore's "Amar Desher Mati".
CATC CAMP (20 August - 29 August 2018)
41 girl cadets participated in the Combined Annual Training Camp at NCC Parade Ground, Delhi Cantt. Various activities and competitions were carried out during the 10 day programme and our cadets bagged many positions. The girls acquired the first position in group song and the second position in group dance . Cadet Priya secured the first position in solo dance and cadet Resham achieved the second position in solo song.The cadets of the school presented a skit and achieved the third position.Training and lectures on various topicslike yoga , self-defence , drill and shooting were also attended by the cadets.
RASHTRIYA POSHAN MAAH
The month of September was observed as Rashtriya Poshan Maah to make adolescent girls aware of nutrition and balanced diet. Activities related to the theme were carried out and students participated with a great enthusiasm. They brought variety of seeds and prepared a kitchen garden in the premises of school.
Hindi Diwas was celebrated on 14 September, 2018 to promote Hindi language and show respect towards it. The celebration started with a play presented by students of class VIII .The play showcased importance of Hindi language in our life.Harshika from class VI and Priyanka from class VIII delivered speech on the significance of Hindi Diwas.Pooja from class VIII recited a thought-provoking poem highlighting the importance of the language. Various competitions like poster making and slogan writing were also arranged for classes 6 to 10.
NATIONAL UNITY DAY
31st October, 2018 was celebrated as National Unity Day to commemorate the 143 rd birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel .An oath ceremony was organised wherein students along with teachers took pledge to preserve the unity, integrity and security of their motherland.
Donating a hug of warmth...
Salwan Girls Sr. Sec. School participated in an initiative to provide warmth to underprivileged children. Students were motivated to donate but in their best possible way. All the students along with teachers expressed their concern for the needy ones via donating woollen clothes. They were appreciated by the school principal for being generous.
Quami Ekta Week
To foster and reinforce the spirit of communal harmony, national integration and pride in our vibrant, composite culture and nationhood, "Quami Ekta Week" (National Integration Week)was celebrated from 19 th November, 2018 to 25 th November, 2018. The week-long celebration included a variery of activities like poem recitation, essay writing and slogan writing. A rally was also taken out to sensitize everyone to value brotherhood and unity.
