INTERNATIONAL OZONE DAY

25 August 2018 was observed as 'International Ozone Day' with an active participation of the students .With an aim to spread awareness among students to protect the Ozone Layer, different competitions like painting, slogan writing, poster making were organised for the students of classes VIII,IX and X. The theme was "Environmental protection and importance of ozone layer". Members of Eco Club sensitized everyone about their contribution in saving their planet. Posters with the message "say NO to products which contain CFC (Chlorofluorocarbons) and plant more and more trees to save ozone layer.

LETTER WRITING COMPETITION

With an aim to connect young generation to their motherland and also to encourage them to write hand written letters, a Letter Writing competition was organised on 12 September 2018. The theme was "Letter to my motherland" inspired by Rabindra Nath Tagore's "Amar Desher Mati".

INTERNATIONAL YOGA DAY

The International Yoga Day was celebrated in the premises of Salwan Girls Senior Secondary School on 21st June,2018. The programme started with lamp lighting and chanting of mantras followed by prayer and oath taking by all the NCC cadets. All the participants took a pledge to maintain good physical, mental and moral health. Members of Bhartiya Yoga Sansthan taught the cadets some important asanas and pranayamas. The NCC cadets of Hansraj Model school, S.D public School and RVPP Kishanganj also participated in the event.

Mrs. Alka Sibbal, Principal concluded the event with a vote of thanks and also motivated students to make yoga an important part of their daily routine.

WORLD POPULATION WEEK

With an aim to raise awareness of Global Population issues the Social Science Department celebrated World Population Week from 12 July 2018 to 19 July2018.The event included various activities such as poster making and slogan writing. Students of classes VIII and IX actively participated in these activities .They expressed their deep concern and showcased the dire consequences of population explosion through posters and slogans. The Principal, Mrs Alka Sibbal was contended to see students' active participation in the event and applauded their efforts.

SANSKRIT DIWAS

To promote the ancient Sanskrit language, an artistry competition was organised on 24 July 2018. The competition was categorized into two groups. The first group was of VI class and the second group was of VII and VIII classes. Students participated with great zeal and showcased their talent. Winners of the competition were appreciated for their artistic skills.

PLANTATION WEEK

The Eco Club initiated a Tree Plantation Drive on 7th August 2018. With an aim of “think globally, act locally” the green ambassadors pledged to work in an environment friendly manner which included usage of paper bags, management of waste, conservation of water, saving electricity etc. Myriad of activities like on the spot painting, poster making, poem recitation were carried out to spread awareness among the students about various environmental issues. All the participants realised that it is the duty of everyone to protect plants and trees so that we can develop a pollution free world.The Principal and the Vice-Principal of the school along with the eco-club saviours planted saplings in the school premises. Other students were also urged to do their best to save the globe from green house effect for environment sustainability.

MOVIE SHOW (30th July,2018)

Around 300 students along with their class teachers had a chance to watch the movie 'Mission Impossible - the fall out' at Delite Cinema. The event was arranged by NIE - The Times of India'. Students as well as teachers enjoyed their time to the fullest.

VISIT TO RASTRAPATI BHAWAN AND NATIONAL MUSEUM (9TH AUGUST' 2018)

50 students of class XII (Humanties stream) along with two teachers visited Rastrapati Bhawan on 9th August' 2018 as a part of the educational field trip organised by the school. It was a rare opportunity for the students to take a tour of the building and know about the infrastructure. They were elated to see Ashoka Hall, Darbar Hall, library and Marble House.

On the same day, the students were taken to National Museum too.The visit provided a chance to the students to learn about the museum and its masterpieces. It was an informative experience for the students.

INDEPENDENCE DAY CELEBRATION (14 AUGUST,2018)

Independence day was celebrated in the school with great enthusiasm. The programme started with a patriotic song followed by a speech of class VI student. Two dance performances entertained the audience. A drama on 'Health, Hygiene and Cleanliness' was presented by the students of classes VI to VIII. The event concluded with an emotional note when the girls portrayed various freedom fighters and spoke out their slogans. Mrs. Abha Joshi, Director of the school addressed the gathering and emphasised the need for gaining true independence for the country i.e freedom from illiteracy, corruption, hunger and poverty.

SANSKRIT WEEK (23TH AUGUST, 2018 - 29TH AUGUST, 2018)

Sanskrit Week was celebrated from 23th August,2018 to 29th August,2018.Various activities like poster making, shloka recitation,poem recitation were carried out throughout the week.On 25August 2018 a special programme was organised .The programme began with the Mangalacharan recited by the students of class VI. This was followed by a speech presented by Lakshita of class VIII on the relevance of Sanskrit diwas. Some students of class IX spoke about ancient Indian scientists.Last but not the least, a skit was presented by class VIII students in which they stressed on the dire consequences of using plastic and urged everyone to stop using things made of plastic. The programme ended with a vote of thanks.
